UKC: Black Gold Kozmo's Secret
Kozmo is a very special Belgian Sheepdog. No one told him that
he should have been black.
He earned his first CD title at the young age of 10 months.
Then earned his U-CD when less than two years old. He competed
in Open obedience level but did not care for obedience competition.
Kozmo has been doing agility for the last five years. It took
us three years for him to overcome a scare on a training teeter
totter. My trainer and I worked with him over three years and
he is now doing the teeter in competition. He has earned a title
in UKC agility and in CPE organization. Our plan is to try for
AKC agility titles. Kozmo loves doing agility.
He is a Dog Scout of America and has earned over twenty merit
badges. DSA believes no matter the breed, any dog can try any
sport. Some of Kozmo's merit badges are: Lure coursing, drafting,
sled dog, weight pull, all of the agility merit badges, Rally,
Retrieve, Letterboxing, and Backpacking. He was instrumental
in creating a First Aid merit badge and was the first dog to
earn that badge. He is an excellent demonstration dog for emergency
dog carries, restraints, and bandaging. He also helps bell ring
for the Salvation Army at Christmas time. He also just earned
the much coveted Community Service merit badge.
Along with his Dog Scout activities he has earned a Pack Dog
title (PD) via DSA. He had to carry his packs with required items
for a total of 50 miles with a 5 mile check out hike. He is just
20 miles short of his PDX (pack dog excellent). He needs 100
miles and a ten mile check out hike.
Kozmo has attended a herding seminar. He loves sheep! In July
of 2005 he completed the requirements for his Herding Instinct
Certification (HIC). A herding instructor has been located with
in an hour's drive and he will be starting herding lessons.
Kozmo is the dog of my heart. He has always tried any activity
that I asked him to do. He is always happy and ready to go at
a minute's notice. He opened the world of many dog sports to
me. I have become a better trainer due to owning him. He attracts
attention from people wherever we travel. Kozmo is a great ambassador
for the breed. Not bad for an unqualified Belgian Sheepdog.
